BMR vs TDEE
Basal Metabolic Rate is what you burn at rest; Total Daily Energy Expenditure is what you burn all day. Eating against the right number matters.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
BMR is the energy your body uses for essential functions at complete rest — breathing, heartbeat, organ function, cell repair. It is the largest component of TDEE and the foundation of every calorie target.
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE)
TDEE adds the thermic effect of food and physical activity (including NEAT) to your BMR: TDEE = BMR × activity factor.
The practical rule
Never eat below your BMR for extended periods. Set your nutrition plan against your TDEE, not your BMR.
