Editorial process

Every calculator and article on this site follows the same review loop: source from peer-reviewed research, write clearly, verify the numbers, then review on a schedule.

1. Sourcing

All formulas and recommendations trace to peer-reviewed literature (e.g., Mifflin et al., 1990) or established nutrition-science guidance. Every page's methodology is documented in our methodology.

2. Writing

Plain language, honest error ranges, worked examples. When something is an opinion rather than settled science, we label it.

3. Verification

Every calculator is cross-checked against hand-computed reference cases (like the 80 kg man at 180 cm: BMR 1,780, moderate TDEE 2,759) before release.

4. Review cadence

  • Calculator pages: tested after every code change.
  • Guides: reviewed at least every 12 months, or sooner if the underlying evidence changes.
  • Users report errors via the contact page; confirmed errors are fixed within days.

Corrections

Corrections are made on an ongoing basis; significant changes are noted on the affected page. Recent: November 2026 — the 60-second activity quiz launched and all calculator pages were stress-tested. This page was last reviewed in November 2026.
